Who is Banksy?
In the world of street art, no name causes such a sensation as Banksy - arguably the most famous and at the same time the most mysterious graffiti artist around the globe. A Briton in the 45-50 age range, he successfully keeps his identity deeply hidden, while his works gain recognition not only on the streets of global metropolises, but also at prestigious auctions. He is considered one of the most expensive contemporary artists!
Banksy, who moves people with his ironic, political, yet always poetic works, is an underground hero of street art. In 2009, when the people of Bristol were deciding whether Banksy’s works should remain in public spaces, a whopping 97% voted against their removal – a clear signal of support for his work. Banksy is a star whose shine extends far beyond the standards of the art market. In 2010, Time magazine included him for the first time in its list of the 100 most influential people in the world, alongside figures such as Barack Obama, Steve Jobs and Lady Gaga.
